When you are creating an account on i-tunes, what should i put in?

the last step on i-tunes to setting up your i-tunes account, it says you either have to put your credit card number or your address. Do you have to put both? and if you put your credit card number in, does it charge you anything? or can i just put my address in? will they send me something in the mail that charges me or not?
